Game: Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
Developer: The Chinese Room

I don't entirely know how to describe this game. When I think back to playing it I remember people and conversations. Yet if I were to actually go back and play it there'd only be wisps of light and faded faded memories.

The game takes place in the lovely town of Youghton in Shropshire. The only downside of the town is that it seems Everybody's Gone to the Rapture. (It had to be done.)

There's been a bit of an event at the Valis Observatory and you, Kate, are the only one left.
You are immediately given free roam of the entire area, starting from the gates of the Observatory. You're given a basic introduction to the game mechanics and then let loose to discover stories and scandals through the remnants of what used to be. How much you find out is down to how much time you spend exploring.

The whole place is absolutely incredible. The first ever screenshot I saw of the game I thought was a picture. It really shows off the power of CRYENGINE, especially the dynamic lighting as you transform from day to night during memories and story endings.
Night time memories.

There's no way to describe the game without going into any aspect of the story, which the core element. So I'll just say this is probably one of the best games I've played this year. It's different and has a better story than a lot of AAA titles.
